What is the best or coolest sub-$250 car alarm for a 2000 Toyota 4-Runner?

My old alarm died a long time ago. Since then I have had my side
windshield smashed twice and once they stole a backpack full of goodies.

I also miss that little keyfob that let’s you arm/disarm all the doors
with a button rather then the key.

I have these requirements:
- Under $250
- The keyfob must be thin and connect to my key, as not to take much space
in my pocket
- Must have window shattering built-in or as an option
- Bonus if there is something cool or high tech about it.
- MUST be the kind where I can turn the chirping off. I hate that sound
when you arm or disarm your car alarm. I just want the headlights or other
light to blink. NO SOUND when arming or disarming.

I was recommended this unit:
Viper 350hv plus glass break sensor. The local car stereo store wanted
$280 to sell me the unit and install it.

Is there something cooler, more high-tech, or cheaper out there, or should
I just go with the recommendation?

Thanx in advnce

Hello:

While Viper is certainly a good choice, I would highly recommend the car
security alarms from Commando http://www.commandocaralarms.com. What
distinguishes the Commando series from its competitors are a wide range of
features. More programmable features mean fewer headaches for owners.

Their prices are very reasonable and you can get a quality car alarm
anywhere from $50 to $200. I personally haven’t used it but one of my
brother’s friends is using it in his Ford Explorer and is very happy
about the performance. He also advised that you might have to shop around
for Commando products as these are not sold by every retailer (excluding
online shops).

My research on the internet has revealed that there aren’t that many real
customer reviews for this product but everyone has good things to say about
the Commando series. That includes the former employee and presently the
director of Alarmtek Auto Security www.USAcaralarms.com.

I am recommending the Commando based on your specifications. It is a high
tech stuff with a price tag to match.

Again, Viper is a good choice but there are a few customers who have had a
problem (based on my web research).

Hope this helps. Thanks.

Leader.
