What fantasy or science fiction book had a bar called "Tom Grogs Disgusting Drinking Hole" and had elf like creatures that rode on rabbits? I seem to remember the dustcover had a picture of one of the characters standing next to a rabbit. As you might guess from the name of the bar, the novel was not very serious. I think it was published in the late 70's or early 80's.

Not your book, but I wonder if this is at all familiar: http://www.fairy-tale.info/index.php/action_show_id_NDl8PDwmPj58NTB8PDwmPj58NTZ8PDwmPj58.html It would help to know how close/far this sort of thing is to what you're seeking. Thanks. David

The feel isn't the same. A bit more Neil Gaimin-ish or Piers Anthony-ish and less down in Dingley Dell if you know what I mean.

If you don't get an answer I suggest posting this question to www.whatsthatbook.com. It's run by a researcher who used to contribute to this site and is the expert at finding out this kind of stuff. Sorry guys, I feel like the Santa Clause in "Miracle on 34th Street".

Hi wdharrison, This is a long shot, because it is rather "down in Dingley Dell". What about Wil Huygen's Gnomes stories? The first one of these was published in 1977. I can't find an online reference to a drinking hole, but the gnomes rode rabbits (at least they did in the TV adaptation, which was called "David the Gnome"). The books are described as "illustrated observations of gnome habits, anatomy and lifestyle designed for all age groups". You can see them here at Amazon, and can "click to browse inside" the first one: "Gnomes" http://www.amazon.com/dp/0810909650/ "Secrets of the Gnomes" http://www.amazon.com/dp/0810916142/ "Gnome Life" http://www.amazon.com/dp/0810941368/

No, sorry, that's not it.
