Most of the time when clicking the subject of an email and then clicking the subject bar outlook will sort by subject, showing the highlighted subject.

Sometimes, however, it will sort, but will show the first email alphabetically. With 1000's of emails, this is not good.

Now, the subject that I'm trying to sort by always starts the same, for example:
"Order #23190", however, the numbers at the end change.

Sometimes it sorts, sometimes it doesn't. How can I fix this problem?

Can you please give some more examples of the subject names that do not sort correctly?
I have used Outlook extensively and sorting as far as I remember has never been an issue.

Hi juder,

Could you please let us know the version of your OS and Outlook software that you are using?

I have the exact same problem.  I have roughly 12-17k items in my inbox at any one time and it seems to happen regardless of the subject.

Outlook does sort by subject it just looses focus from the email you are on and instead focuses on the first email in the list.  IE something with no subject.

Look for and run SCANPST.EXE

On an XP system, Office2003, it's located in:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\SCANPST.EXE"
