I am looking for a reference to an article written by Whitney Young, Jr. It was in August 1965, in his nationally syndicated column To Be Equal. Likely in the Black press.
He's talking about the publishiing industry and references the Little Golden Book, A Visit to the Zoo and not seeing any African American children in this picture book.
I've looked at the Chicago Defender for Aug 7, 14, and 21 - but no luck. I don't see the issue for Aug 28.

I'm going to say August '64 is what you're after:
Let me know if that's it.

The Chicago Defender called the column To Be Equal. I'm not sure if that's the title was syndicated and the same in other newspapers of the day.

NJ&G is a Norfolk, VA black newspaper. The same article, though, also appears in the New York Amsterdam News, 8/8/1964. Let me know if you need a copy of that version.
A very happy new year, Kyra.
